Brown manila tooled boards, gilt cover titles, moderate shelf wear. Book is overall sturdy and in good reading condition. Pages are otherwise free of marks or folds. Heavy foxing to two thin advertisement pages, the first of which is torn from the top edge near the gutter. Fading stamp with a previous owner's name and address on front attached endpaper. Heavier wear on hinges and head and foot of spine as well. Some wear to cover, particularly along edges where cloth has split in places exposing bits of the boards beneath. Ads at the front for other books by the publisher dated January, 1852. This is a first printing of the first edition. Title page dated 1852, copyright page dated 1851. Brown cloth over boards with gold lettering on spine and decorative blind stamping on front cover and spine. ![]()
